Using Sibblingz's social game development platform, CrowdStar has integrated and launched its Happy Island game on Bing with a special search-based minigame and other enhancements.
Tech firm Sibblingz claims this is the first social game that's directly playable inside a search browser. Happy Island was previously released to iPhone, iPad, and Android devices. It also has a presence on Facebook, where it currently has 4.2 million monthly users and almost 700,000 daily players.
Happy Island's Bing edition allows users to play and progress through its first levels without needing to sign in, a feat that Sibblingz says is another first for social games. Players can choose to login using Facebook connect and allow the title to interact with their social graph at their discretion.
The social game also features a new minigame that's available on both Bing and Facebook, enabling players to earn in-game prizes with an experience that uses Bing's search engine. Sibblingz says CrowdStar managed to create this enhancement and adapt Happy Island for Bing with its engine in just weeks.
Microsoft has shown increased interest in pushing social games through its properties recently; last month, the company rebuilt its MSN Games site, updated "the games experience" on Windows Live Messenger, expanded Bing Games internationally, and launched a hub connecting all three of those platforms.
"Crowdstar and Sibblingz have shown amazing agility with taking an idea from concept to reality in record time," says Bing's executive producer of gaming Parri Munsell. "Microsoft is excited to have Happy Island as the first social game available directly on Bing."
"We believe this launch brings several important innovations to the social gaming industry, starting with the ability to experience great game play before being required to sign in. Additionally, the search integrated mini game introduces a fun and exciting way to experience the power of Bing search right inside of the game."
