[We're going to start something new at GamerBytes -- a simplified opinion piece about a recent game that we've played. The review will have three outcomes -- 'recommended', 'neutral', and 'not for us'. We will be following new games available on the service as well as downloadable content released for these games. We hope you enjoy it!]
I?ve been a huge fan of Twisted Pixel ? I loved both The Maw and ?Splosion Man when they came out back in 2009. Saying that, I really don?t like Comic Jumper.
It?s just such a weird game ? it?s a twin stick shooter of sorts, but I had just no fun at all playing through it. While Maw and ?Splosion Man played close to the ?keep it simple, stupid? ideal, Comic Jumper does this to a fault.
You are doing the exact same three things throughout the game ? shooting within a 2D plane, dull-fully fight hand-to-hand against enemies, or embark on way-too-long rail shooter segments, and it gets old fast.
In my opinion, levels tend to be far too long, filled with repeating segments and frustrating enemies spawning on top of you. You feel like you?re doing the exact same thing in every level, mostly because you are.
Graphically the game looks nice at first, but you?ll soon find that it?s to its degradation. I had a difficult time seeing enemies and their projectiles in The Nordoc and Manga sections of the game, and every point where you had to climb across a ?pipe? section I?d end up falling off the level, since the objects don't look like something you can climb.
I wanted to like it, I really did, but I honestly can?t recommend the game - though some of the print reviews so far have been much more positive.
Recommendation: Not for us.
